THE ARTIST & THE IDEA
BIO
Yurii Palkov is a contemporary artist based in Chișinău, Moldova. Working across drawing, painting, and mixed media, he has developed a distinctive visual language where physical gesture meets conceptual thinking.
Educated in graphic arts and shaped by close dialogue with sculpture and classical painting, his artistic path includes mural work, independent graphic series, and interdisciplinary collaborations. His practice grows from observation — of places, people, and the quiet contradictions of everyday life.
For Palkov, drawing is not a style.
It is a way of seeing.
PHILOSOPHY
Ideas always come first.
A work may begin with a line, a random stain of coffee, or an image noticed in passing. The result often balances irony and sincerity, simplicity and depth. Reality becomes slightly displaced — not to escape it, but to look at it more closely.
The viewer is invited to complete the work through interpretation. Meaning is not fixed; it emerges in the space between image and perception.
THE METHOD
Yurii draws with his fist — the way he has held a pencil since childhood. What once appeared unconventional became part of his visual language.
The gesture creates tension in the line: direct, physical, unpolished. Yet the technique is never the goal. A drawing exists only when it carries an idea.
The hand is only a tool.
The real instrument is perception.
